This opal, which we set in solid 925 silver, was formed in the matrix of Ethiopia. The range of colours in fiery flashes span across the spectrum. Blues and greens dominate the scene on some angles, while other other angles will put on a dazzling display of reds.
 
Ethiopian opals are hydrophane gemstones, so their nature is to absorb water through pores in the stone, which can make them briefly more transparent until the water evaporates and the colours return to their vibrant state. We consider this phenomenon part of the mystery and magic of Ethiopian opals. These stunning stones do require you to be a little bit more careful with their delicate nature, avoiding knocking the stone or rubbing it vigorously while it is wet, however this particular opal has been subject to testing regarding its durability and stability. It is a very sound Ethiopian opal.
